Sian Ka’an .. ‘where the sky begins’
Employed as a wordsmith by Getty in 1998, I worked for 5-years in a small team assessing the meaning of words in relation to visual content.
- We cleaned partner data, withheld ambiguities and set up prompts to guide users to relevant results.
- Analysing search behaviours we developed a vocabulary of ‘preferred terms’ with synonym backup.
- Collaborating with Getty’s creative team we worked new terminology into the vocabulary, ensuring retrospective application across all content.
- Methodology was communicated with data teams in London, Seattle and New York.
I left Getty with a deep understanding of the process, desired functionality and methodology of visual search and extensive experience in the considerations for building taxonomy. Dedicated to this work, I have since contributed to search improvement across many sectors.
They say an image speaks a thousand words. Yet behind this .. the language of images themselves …. is keywords.
